    Oct. 16, 2026 – An insurance card can promise access that a provider directory cannot deliver. Researchers called 5,822 mental-health providers across five states. Among calls answered by a person, only 24% produced an appointment with the listed clinician. Outdated listings and providers unable to take new patients left many callers facing another barrier to care.
